WE STAND WITH BEIRUT

Assalamu alaikum and Jumma Mubarak.

The Islamic Center of Riverside expresses its deep shock and pain at the massive explosions in Beirut, Lebanon on Tuesday, August 4th. Authorities are calling the explosion an accident pending further investigation. The blast caused more than 135 deaths and 5,000 injuries. Thousands have been displaced as damage and destruction to buildings was widespread. The Lebanese government has declared a two-week state of emergency after two huge explosions

Beirut’s governor, Marwan Abboud, has said the damage from the port blast has extended over half of the city, with the cost of damage likely above $3bn.
Rescuers continue to search for victims who remain trapped under rubble. Hospitals, several of which were damaged in the blast, have been inundated with patients. In the Gemmayze district, medical teams were forced to triage patients in a car park, while the Red Cross said it is coordinating with the Lebanese health ministry to set up morgues.

The Islamic Center of Riverside board of directors, the board of trustee and staff prays for the speedy recovery of the injured, solace for the departed and the comfort for the first responders.

We urge our community to stand in support of the victims by donating to various Muslim charitable organizations who are active on the ground in Lebanon.

Lebanon needs us. Stay together, stay strong.
